George Huardel-Bly (1872 - ?)
Born in Orleans in France in 1872, Georges Huardel-Bly established himself early as a master of engraving. He documented his extensive travels throughout Europe in the form of highly detailed etchings and drypoints. Settling for a time in Brighton, he was sought out by the famous and the well-to-do for his skill as a silhouette artist, very popular at the time.
Though little is recorded of his personal life, Huardel-Bly was a prolific printmaker, particularly during his years spent in England where his etchings—from the humblest of villages to famous city landmarks –were very popular.
His etchings are masterly designed, etched according to the best tradition, and above all, superbly printed by the artist himself who has a world-wide reputation as a skillful craftsman, and expert art printer among the leading painter-etchers of the day.
The works of George Huardel-Bly remain highly collectable today.
