CHRISTIAN BERGERON (1946 - )
Born in Clermont, Quebec, in 1946, Christian Bergeron has devoted his entire life to painting.
At the age of 16, he headed to Quebec City to perfect the rudiments of his art. He began with oils, illuminating the highly European buildings of Old Quebec on canvas. This is when he met and was inspired by Francesco Iacourto, one of the most notable Canadian painters of our age. In fact, the master once stated that young Bergeron would “be the painter of the future!”
Self-taught, Bergeron soon turned his interest to acrylics, artfully exploiting the medium’s unique potential through the use of a spatula. This approach allowed him to generously deploy an explosive palette of brilliant, eye-catching colours, contributing to the singular luminosity of his work and making him one of the most sought-after painters in Canada.
He is well known for his colourful and expressive landscapes. He works essentially with the palette knife. Although he has been painting for nearly 40 years, his art is constantly in evolution. He strongly protects his personal liberty and creativity, allowing no one to influence his style. This temperament transcends his work and can be perceived in his painting, characterized by a vigorous touch, bright colors and contrasts, spontaneity and a sensitive yet wild personality.
As a young artist, he demonstrated an aptitude for figurative art. An autodidact, he has been building his own style, and in the past ten years, he has been developing and perfecting a modern (prismatic) style of his own. He approaches both figurative and “sectioned” styles with equal brio, using landscapes from around the world as the inspirations for his vibrant canvasses.
Today, the work of Christian Bergeron adorns the walls of art-lovers throughout the world. His works are shown in private and corporate art collections in Canada, USA and Europe. Among corporate collectors are: Gaz Metropolitain, Pratt & Whitney, Canam Manac, Donohue, the Laurentian Bank, Royal Trust, The Jim Patterson Group (Vancouver), Le Manoir Richelieu, Fort Gary and Les Caisses Desjardins.
In 2007, he became an associate member of the Copley Society of Art in Boston where he exhibits his works regularly.
